Nokia’s new 6220 may come from the Classic clan but this ‘mid-range’ Symbian smartphone rocks up with a mighty feature set that wouldn’t look out of place on the Finnish giant’s uber-elite Nseries flock.
It’s unassuming, compact but smart design doesn’t hint at the power within; harboured away is a five-megapixel snapper with Xenon flash, built-in GPS for sat nav, rapido HSDPA download speeds and DVD-like VGA-quality video capture chops. Admittedly Wi-Fi and support for N-Gage gaming have gone AWOL but it’s a mouthwatering line-up considering its ranking.
Naturally, the 6220 is a breeze to use, although its keypad does prove to be overly stiff to thumb. But overlook this minor quibble and you’ll soon be blown away but its impressive autofocus-loaded Carl Zeiss carved five-megapixel camera lens that shoots the sharp, detailed photos. Equally adept is the blinding Xenon flash while video recording quality is far to slick for wasting on You Tube stylee home-spun funnies.
With a smallish 2.2-inch screen, the 6220 sat-nav skills are best suited to walking rather than an in-car set-up. The onboard feature-rich Nokia Maps 2.0 software, now featuring a new pedestrian mode, dispenses directions with aplomb while locking onto a satellite fix was akin to a Police sniffer dog in a Yuppie wine bar.
Verdict
This so called ‘mid-range’ smartphone is bursting with marquee features. Nokia has spoilt you lucky pups rotten.
