Last year’s Z8 multimedia smartphone may have put Motorola back on the mobile radar after the RAZR years fall out but its two-megapixel snapper was woefully pedestrian. Thankfully, its successor, the Z10, is wise to the fact we crave megapixel power and upped the ante.
Apart from swapping the Z8’s lurid fluorescent trim for classier silver and revamping the keypad for the better, this pair of Z phones could easily have been separated at birth. But while the design has stood still, it means you still get to play with its ace phizog hugging kick-ass banana slider action.
There’s no flimsy RAZR thinness on show here, the Z10 is rock solid and well built. But the biggest headliner is the autofocus-spiked 3.2-megapixel snapper – a first from Moto. And for a debut, it’s delivers sharp snaps. Of course, the megapixel count is still a tad disappointing, but considering all of its rivals have gone larger with five, it’s still a top effort. The Z10’s other boon is its impressive and intricate embedded Video Editor software that lets you polish your footage
Other good news? Motorola has said adios to its renowned tricksy UI and plumped for a more intuitive and highly customisable Symbian UIQ set-up while download speeds hit land-speed HSDPA velocity.
Verdict
Other rival smarties may pack more megapixel power but we can’t deny the Z10 is still a slick photo and video pusher
