The iPhone 3G was possibly the most anticipated handset ever, and it shows, topping one million units in its first weekend out in the wild.
That’s a lot of iPhone 3G’s. It’s an achievement which looks even better considering the original iPhone took 74 days to reach the same landmark.
Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO praised the phones great start:
“iPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend. It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world.”
It gets even better for Apple. Eager app happy customers have been lapping up Apple’s new App Store, with up to 10 million downloads over the weekend, with games being the most popular choice for restless digits.
