Sony Ericsson K660i review
Rating: 4

Sony Ericsson K660i

Sony Ericsson has taken a rest bite from its plan of Cybershot and Walkman phone domination to give Internet fiends their very own cheeky pocket-dwelling web slinger.

But one look at the K660i and its two-inch display and you can clearly see it isn’t really geared for hardcore World Wide Web adventuring.

Instead, its role in life is to keep web dabblers in touch, quickly and easily, with your social networking scene and to maintain daily favourite website visits while on the bounce.

Like its K530i stable mate, the K660i comes from Sony Ericsson’s straight laced 3G candybar bloodline, but this time with a hint of glam - the funky coloured band, mirrored faced, soft-edges and K810-esque circular keypad make it far less humdrum.

Get down to some web action and the K660i leaps to life. With the latest HSDPA download speeds, web pages load at bullet speed, but it’s the manner in which it handles the full fat web for the small screen that impresses.

Using a Nokia MiniMap-esque browsing technique, web pages are displayed in all their desktop glory with a small window to select sections for you to zoom in and read. However, if you prefer your web pages bite-sized then the K660i can prune to fit the screen. Whatever your viewing penchant it all works seamlessly.

But the Sony Ericsson K660i’s mission to deliver a slick web browsing experience doesn’t end there. Switch to web mode and the 3, 6, 9 and # keys give one-click access to the Google search bar, bookmarks, home page and the zoom function while a virtual mouse pointer also sharpens link selection.

You would expect K660i to play out like any other mid-range handset and it obliges in the most part with a pedestrian two-megapixel snapper. But it’s also brimming with a neat line in mobile mods, including a Walkman-esque music player with Mega Bass and support for Stereo Bluetooth, a built-in FM radio and TrackID music recognition software. A tidy package of extra talents.

Verdict:
The K660i is a solid all-rounder equipped with impressive mobile web browsing skills for a seriously quick Internet fix on the fly.
