Texting is so last century.
Get up to date and get social networking using your handset.
Master in 1 minute
Step 1: So many messages…
Your phone can send messages to your friends in so many ways, it’s difficult to know which to choose. Install Fring and you’ll be able to contact them through MSN messenger, Skype or ICQ. Point your browser to m.facebook.com and you’ll be able to write on their Facebook wall. Not good enough? Send them files through Nokia’s MOSH service. Any of these services can keep you in contact, so investigate the ones your friends are already using for instant connections.
Step 2: Constant updates
Like to keep your friends updated on everything you do? Facebook’s mobile site will let you update your status through your phone, so your mates will always know what you’re up to. Not enough for you? Then check out Twitter, and keep them in the loop with endless updates direct from your handset – you’ll even get a text when they change their Twitter status.
Step 3: Do not disturb
If you sign up to Twitter, or direct emails to your handset, you could find yourself bombarded with updates whenever a friend tags you in a photo, updates their status or just drops you a message. Services such as Facebook let you choose which updates are delivered via email, and Twitter will let you switch off text alerts direct from your handset. Tune these wisely, or you could find yourself woken up at all hours, or embarrassed during meetings.
Step 4: Feed me
Almost all social networking sites let you subscribe to RSS feeds to tell you about updates. If your phone has an RSS reader installed it’s a great way to keep on top of your account, without messing about with mobile websites, e-mails or text updates.
