Nokia N95’s abilities: revealed!

Mobile phones don’t come much more multitalented than Nokia’s flagship handset, the N95. Boasting a superb 5-megapixel camera, built-in GPS for heaps of location-based functionality and mega-fast HSDPA 3G for lightning web browsing and downloads, it’s a true king among mobiles – so read on and check out all the brilliant stuff you can do with it, as we bring you our top ten N95 guides!

1. N95 8GB review
Nokia recently made an already amazing phone even more mind-meltingly desirable by launching the N95 8GB. How is it better? Well, there’s one heck of a clue in the name: this version comes with a massive 8GB of storage space just waiting to be stuffed with photos, videos, music and all manner of cool apps. And there are more improvements besides: read our full-on review for the skinny on this black-clad superphone.

2. CoPilot Live 6 review
The N95’s GPS receiver means it can talk to satellites and work out exactly where on the planet it is – just make sure it has a clear line-of-sight to the sky. So the most logical way to harness this location-divining power is to transform the phone into a satnav device, and there’s no better way to do that than to load up CoPilot Live 6. Check out our review to find out just how nifty it is – you’ll never get lost on the roads again!

3. Turn your N95 into a mobile movie player
With its large, high resolution screen and bags of storage capacity (either built into the 8GB version or just courtesy of a beefy microSD memory card), the N95 makes a pretty tasty way to watch movies on the move. The process of getting your DVD movies converted and ready for playback isn’t the easiest though – but this simple guide breaks it all down for you nicely.

4. N95 photography guide
Don’t know your ISO from your LED flash? Think Carl Zeiss was a Swiss footballer from the 1960s? Well, if you own an N95 you’d do well to learn the ins and outs of its camera, because it’s without a doubt one of the finest snappers ever to grace a mobile phone. And today’s your lucky day, because this article takes you through all the basics of N95 photography.

5. Internet radio a go-go
The N95’s speedy HSDPA and Wi-Fi web connections make it ideal for streaming Internet radio stations straight into your ears. Heck, Nokia has even launched its own web radio app to make delving into thousands of worldwide stations an absolute piece of cake. Read on for a step-by-step guide to getting it up and running.

6. Speed up your satnav
Nokia’s Maps service is super-handy if you’re trying to find out where you are or where you’re going, but it can be a bit of a slowcoach, not to mention something of a data-hog when it’s having to download all those maps on the fly. The good news is you can sidestep this irritating delay by pre-loading your N95 with detailed maps before you even go out. How? Read on and we’ll tell you.

7. Edit videos on your mobile
The N95’s camera can capture some mean-looking video footage, and thankfully you don’t need to move it all onto your PC for editing and trimming. Yep, it can all be done directly on the phone itself, as this simple tutorial demonstrates. Read it and you’ll be chopping footage like Scorcese in no time.

8. N95: the ultimate golf caddy
Okay, so it won’t lug your clubs around, but the N95’s GPS capabilities mean it can feed you ever-so-handy distance data to help you out on the course – as long as you pair it up with the right software app. We’ve put three through their paces here, so that you’ll know which one to take with you on that “good walk spoiled”.

9. Make dirt cheap VoIP calls with Gizmo
Gizmo is a voice over IP app that lets you use the N95’s Internet connection to make unbelievably cheap phone calls – which is very handy when you’re using a Wi-Fi network. Sure, it’s not going to make your network particularly overjoyed, but Nokia has even included a link to it on the phone’s Download! app.

10. Ditch your laptop for an N95 8GB
Nokia doesn’t refer to its Nseries mobiles as “multimedia computers” for nothing, and with a bit of tinkering and a few smart optional purchases, you can actually transform your N95 into a natty, pocket-sized alternative to a laptop – meaning you can get on with those important work-related tasks without having to haul a notebook around everywhere you go. Click through to see just how you do it.
