Head-to-head: Nokia E65 versus Nokia N73

What’s this? Two Nokia’s facing off against each other? Well they’re both pretty special, but which will come out on top – the candybar, or the slider?

SIZE
Nokia E65
The E65 just edges its candybar rival, measuring up at the same height (while closed) and 5mm slimmer than its wideboy opponent. It’s also 3mm shallower, which is all-important when there’s pocket space at stake.

Nokia N73
The N73 might be slightly girthier than its sliding rival, but it’s much shorter when that slide-out keyboard is extended. Unfortunately though, that’s not what we consider a fair fight. It’s a simple loss here, sorry candybar fans.

CAMERA
Nokia E65
Two megapixels ‘aint bad, but against the N73’s mighty 3.2-meg sensor, the E65 just doesn’t cut it in the camera stakes.

Nokia N73
Whopping 3.2-megapixel resolution, high quality LED flash and Carl Zeiss optics make the N73 an admirable cameraphone, and more than capable of flooring the E65.

STORAGE
Nokia E65

The E65 bounds out of its box with 50MB of onboard memory and room for more through a MicroSD card. Can the N73 compete? With 42MB and a miniSD slot… err.. no.

Nokia N73
They’re both expandable, but the N73 packs a smidgen less memory as standard, meaning its toppled in this test, but not by much.

CONNECTIVITY
Nokia E65
Uh-oh. This looks bad for the N73. The E65’s packing infra-red, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and USB connections. There’s no GPS, but it’s still enough to batter the candybar competition, which has no Wi-Fi at all. An easy win.

Nokia N73
No Wi-Fi inside makes the N73 a loser in this head to head. Still, it’s not over yet…

DESIGN
Nokia E65
The younger looks of the E65 just give it the edge here. Those rounded edges, that polished exterior. It all combines to make the N73 look positively pensionable.

Nokia N73
It has to be said, the N73 hasn’t aged well. Its candybar shape is as solid as ever, but it’s hardly a looker, and next to the E65’s minimalist shell, it just looks dated.

VERDICT
The E65 is the undisputed victor here, proving the value of extras inside, and a polished shell on the outside. Of course, if you’re keen on taking top-notch pictures, then forget we spoke and plump for the N73 instead. If you’re after a better all rounder though, it has to be the E65 every time.
