Here is a smartphone big on business, big on features and just plain big. As successor to the original TyTN, this sequel has not only gorged on the pies but has upped the feature set to jostle, along with the Nokia E90, for the boardroom top seat.
This Windows Mobile 6-powered smartie is now stacked with 3.6Mbps HSDPA download speeds, built-in Wi-Fi, embedded GPS for sat nav, a three-megapixel camera and all flavours of mobile messaging.
Weighing a salad-dodging 190g though, the TYTN II won’t be a pal to your pocket. Despite the bulky waistline, it sports mores stylish lines than its predecessor and a new-fangled titling screen designed to make full fat web browsing on the hop more enjoyable; just slide open the stylus-driven 2.8-inch touch-screen, lift it up and surf away.
The full QWERTY keyboard is spot on for drafting long messages and naturally, this smartie supports push-email (this a tad convoluted to set-up) and the Windows Mobile standard issue PIM functionality, so you can easily sync up your email, contacts, calendar etc with your PC Outlook. The built-in GPS receiver comes with a fully-featured TomTom Navigator 6 software taster and we found the satellite fix times very rapid and sat nav performance very polished. However, you’ll have to invest in the optional full solution if you want complete UK or European coverage. The camera pixel-power has been hiked from two up to three-megapixels delivering decent enough images despite the lack of flash and with limited effects.
The TyTN II has also improved its multi-tasking skills with a 128MB RAM refit, so starting and running up programs and apps is way smoother than before.
This smartie definitely has a lot of business muscle in all the right areas and despite a GBH to the wallet price tag, should be on every business professional’s shortlist.
Verdict
The mammoth TyTN II has oodles of business acumen, tempered with multimedia mod cons and is currently vying with the Nokia E90 for the heavyweight business smartphone title.
