The Nokia E65 has got something of the Christian-Bale-in-American-Psycho about it. Sinisterly chic for a ‘work’ phone, this ultra cool smartphone is chiselled to frightening perfection, sleekly sliding open with the mechanical grace of a Lambo door.
This is the sort of wow-factor reserved for handsets at the top of the fashion runway, like the Nokia 8800 Sirocco or, dare we say the iPhone even.
And it’s all in the E65’s devilishly alluring design flourishes – smooth heavyweight sliding action, metal keypad with stylish fat gutters running down its flanks, and coolly curved body. Plus, the Nokia’s face is host to a set of smart one-touch custom buttons that let you get straight into your most-used application, contacts and call lists.
A fine phone physique would mean Jack without a serious business attitude, which also happens to be where the Nokia E61 excels. Ideal for trips, it’s Quadband equipped for total global network access. It’s got Lance Armstrong-like stamina too, with a battery that manages around 6 hours of talk-time and pushes 11 days on standby.
High-speed 3G access via WCDMA is backed up with Wi-Fi with VoIP calling. Although, like the E61, getting onto a Wi-Fi connection can be a smidge tricky first time out until you get to grips with the E65’s connectivity settings. Getting email up and running is an effortless affair though, as it supports all the major mobile messaging solutions. Managing documents and attachments via the E65’s onboard mini office applications is also a breeze.
It knows how to have a laugh too, with a solid media player letting you take in tunes and watch vids on its detailed 2.3-inch screen. All this makes the Nokia E65 the sort of suit you seriously want to hang out with.
Verdict
Compact and ferociously cool, the Nokia E65 has got super-heavyweight smartphone clout as well as utter class.
