Design is king for Motorola right now and, on the surface at least, the Motorola KRZR K1 is living up to the high standards set up by its RAZR brother. Whip this out in any situation and people will stop talking to have a look. Just make sure you don’t let them look too deep.
Best described as a clamshell variant of the RIZR, there’s no doubting this phone’s pedigree. Billed as an entertainment device, it’s certainly well specced, sporting as it does a 2-megapixel camera and integrated MP3 player along with support for Bluetooth stereo.
Step inside though, and a faint haze of disappointment starts to fall in. For starters the keypad feels a bit like a cheap version of the original etched version in the RAZR. That said, it is well laid out and we had little trouble selecting the right keys with our chubby digits. The navigation keys on the other hand looked great but were a touch close for our liking, though they’ll work fine for little fingers.
The Motorola K1’s menu system itself is a bit basic, but reasonably easy to navigate. Functionality is there, albeit in a fairly simple form (contacts are limited to name and number, rather than full contact cards).
The interactive menu offers instant access to a range of services. Sadly, the KRZR also reveals everything you need to know about this phone. If “horoscopes”, “fun” and “chat” are your thing, then you’re fine. If not it’s probably one to avoid.
Verdict
Teenage girls will love Motorola KRZR K1. Sadly, you won’t.
